This page records what the Gilgit-Baltistan tourism department reported about its participation in ITB Berlin 2026 — and how that kind of trade-fair outreach connects to the rest of this website. It is a record of something that has already happened, not an invitation to an event, a list of packages or a booking page. If you arrived here looking for a tour sold at the fair, the short answer is that this site doesn’t sell tours. The longer answer, below, shows you how to turn the region’s international presentation into a trip you can actually plan.
What the department reported
The tourism department reports that Gilgit-Baltistan took part in ITB Berlin 2026, dated 3 to 5 March 2026. The participation was through the Pakistan Pavilion, together with the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation. According to the report, the participation highlighted three things: the region’s landscapes, its cultural heritage and its adventure tourism. It also included meetings with international tour operators and investors.
That is the whole of the published record. The report doesn’t name the people who attended, the stand layout, a session programme, the operators who were met, or any agreement that came out of those meetings. We haven’t added any of those details — they aren’t in the source.
The March 2026 dates have passed. Treat this page as a record of reported participation. It isn’t a list of current offers, and it isn’t a promise that the region will appear at the same fair in a later year.
The London fair that came first
ITB Berlin 2026 is the second international trade-fair note on this site. The first is World Travel Market London 2025. There, the department reports, a delegation from Gilgit-Baltistan led by the Chief Minister took part in the global tourism event. The delegation presented the region’s landscapes, cultural heritage and adventure tourism potential, and met international tourism businesses and investors.
Read side by side, the two reports describe the same message carried to two audiences:
| World Travel Market London 2025 | ITB Berlin 2026 | |
|---|---|---|
| How GB took part | A delegation led by the Chief Minister | Through the Pakistan Pavilion, with the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation |
| What was highlighted | Landscapes, cultural heritage, adventure tourism potential | Landscapes, cultural heritage, adventure tourism |
| Who was met | International tourism businesses and investors | International tour operators and investors |
| Dates published on this site | Year only (2025) | 3 to 5 March 2026 |
Neither report gives visitor numbers, deal values or follow-up events — and neither should be read as if it did.
What trade-fair outreach means for a traveller
A trade fair is mainly a business-to-business event. Tourism boards, national corporations and operators meet buyers who package trips for travellers abroad. For you, the practical effect is indirect. You may see more Gilgit-Baltistan itineraries from operators in your own country, or hear the region mentioned more often. Before you book, it’s worth knowing how those offers connect to the rules on the ground.
The three themes, and where to read about them here
Each theme the department says it highlighted has its own section on this site.
- Landscapes. Start with the mountains section, which holds records for more than a hundred peaks taken from the official permit peaks table, and the lakes and valleys page. For individual sights, use places to visit and the destinations pages, which are written for trip planning district by district.
- Cultural heritage. The culture and history sections gather the department’s notes on languages, dress, dance, forts and early Buddhist sites. The festivals section lists events such as Noroz, Jashn-e-Mefang and the Shandur Polo Festival.
- Adventure tourism. The department FAQ lists trekking, mountaineering, rock climbing, white water rafting, paragliding, skiing, ski traversing and ice skating among outdoor activities. Climbing and trekking have their own rules on trekking and mountaineering regulations.
Operators you meet abroad still need to be registered
If a company abroad sells you a Gilgit-Baltistan trip, the on-the-ground part still runs under Gilgit-Baltistan and national rules. The tourism department FAQ explains that operators registered with DTS Islamabad are listed through the NADRA operators list, and operators registered in Gilgit-Baltistan are listed on the official GB tourism website. Our registered tour operators directory gives the names and licence references that appear on the Directorate of Tourist Services list.
The step-by-step version is on hiring registered operators for international visits and the general hiring a tour operator guide. If an overseas agent tells you they work with a local partner, ask for that partner’s name and licence reference — then check it against the current official list before you pay.
Permits don’t change because of a fair
Nothing in either fair report changes permit rules. If your trip includes trekking or climbing, read applying for trekking and mountaineering permits. If it includes a national park such as Deosai, the FAQ says visitors must get a permit from the Wildlife Department and follow park rules on litter and disturbance; see national park visit regulations. Photography is prohibited in restricted areas, at military installations and in sensitive border areas, as set out on photography restrictions.
What it means for investors and businesses
Both reports mention investors, and the department’s published materials name the kinds of projects it has in mind. The FAQ lists potential tourism investments including ski resorts, cable cars, camping pods, hotels and restaurants, and picnic points. See potential tourism investments. A named idea in that list isn’t a built attraction — and nothing on this site should be read as an offer.
For a project that involves government participation, our guide to contacting the PPP authority for investment explains the general public-private partnership process: a clear proposal, feasibility work, and a formal selection process with prequalification and bidding. It also warns investors to be cautious about social media adverts and informal intermediaries, and to verify any opportunity through an official department, procurement notice or authorised office before sharing money or confidential documents.
If you’re a tourism business, the licensing side is on obtaining DTS licences and tourism sector acts and regulations. The FAQ names the GB Hotel and Restaurant Act 2020, the GB Tour Guides Act 2020 and the GB Travel Agencies and Tour Operators Act 2020.
Who took the region to Berlin
The ITB report names the Tourism, Sports, Culture, Archaeology and Museums Department of the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan as its source, with the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation as the partner at the Pakistan Pavilion. For background on how the department grew, our tourism department history page records the institutional steps the department lists for itself: a tourism cell in the planning department in 2000, a tourism, sports and culture department notified in 2005, a directorate of tourism and district tourism offices in 2006, a sports board in 2007, and archaeology and museums devolved under the 8th Amendment in 2011.
How to use this page if you’re planning a trip
- Treat the fair as a starting point. If the region caught your eye at ITB or in coverage of it, read the Gilgit-Baltistan travel overview first.
- Pick your season. The best time to visit guide explains why a summer pass trip and a winter valley trip are different holidays.
- Work out how you’ll arrive. The FAQ names Gilgit Airport and Skardu International Airport, and the Karakoram Highway, Babusar Pass and Shandur Pass as road approaches. See getting to Gilgit-Baltistan and Skardu International Airport access.
- Check your operator. Use the registered tour operators directory and the international hiring guide above.
- Read the conduct notes. The FAQ asks visitors to dress modestly and remove shoes before entering a mosque or a local house. See visitor customs and dress.
- Check alerts before you travel. Road closures are posted under alerts.
What this page doesn’t include
We haven’t added a stand number, hall, programme, list of attendees, meeting outcomes, package prices or a future fair date — none of them are in the department’s report. If you see those details elsewhere, check them with the department or the organiser. This website doesn’t represent the department at fairs and doesn’t take bookings.
